A friend told me about something that recently happened at a children's home here in Phoenix. They had received funds earmarked to buy a new outfit for each child. A director took one of the little girls shopping and heard her crying in the dressing room. Concerned, she said, 'Honey, you don't have to buy that dress if you don't want it. We'll look at some others.' When the little girl got control, she said, 'Oh, no. I was just cryng 'cause I've never had a new dress before!'

All of us can probably remember when we were kids and got a special new outfit - how loved and important it made us feel.

If this can happen here in the U.S. how much more in countries around the world. Kids in orphanages have many times come right off the street where they hardly had clothes on their back, much less ever having something new that was their own. I began to imagine how it would feel for these kids if they had a new dress or shirt that was unique and their own; how it would be a tangible act of love that they'd probably wear for years and remember for a lifetime.

The ultimate goal of Dresses For Orphans is to remind each child that they have this outfit because Jesus loves them. The tag on the sleeve is designed to be a constant reminder of this fact.

In order to reach that goal we need people who will partner with us in prayer and financial support. Together, we can put a smile on the faces of many kids through receiving a new dress or shirt.

Prayer Partner

for more volunteers in the Phoenix area to help make the dresses and shirts to meet the overwhelming number of requests.
for each girl and boy who receives an outfit that they will understand more and more that they are special and valuable in God's sight.
that others will see the vision of Dresses For Orphans and give to this ministry. It costs $5.00 to make a dress and $2.50 for a shirt.

Dresses For Orphans is a ministry of Ripe for Harvest World Outreach, a non-profit ministry that has been involved in mission activity around the world for the last 30 years (www.ripeforharvest.org).

All gifts are sent to Ripe For Harvest and they will issue you a tax deductible receipt. All money received is used exclusively for supplies for the dresses and shirts - no salary is taken.

There are TWO WAYS you can become involved in providing outfits to children in orphanages around the world:

Sew Dresses and Shirts ...

Women in the Phoenix area are needed to help sew the dresses and shirts.

There are many steps to make these outfits and a variety of skills are needed - cutting out hearts and stars from scrap fabric, ironing, simple sewing tasks and more complicated sewing such as the applique work. We meet regularly to work together to make as many dresses and shirts as possible. Donate Fabric Scraps

Dresses For Orphans is always looking for cotton, kid-friendly fabric scraps to use for the appliques on the dresses and shirts. If you are ready to clear out your fabric stash contact Darlene to let her know what you have available.
